The first church was built here. After the church was moved, some of the graves were moved to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church Cemetery and possibly other sites.
In the early years infants and children were buried the same day they died. The adults were buried the day after they died.
Diptheria struck the settlers in the 1880's and many died, especially children. One family had 5 deaths from the sickness. One little girl Johanna died on July 15, 1898. The father had to drive with horses and wagon to Eureka, SD to get lumber to build a coffin, while there, he thought perhaps he better bring some lumber in case of another death. When he arrived home, Katie, age 6, sister of Johanna had died. Two coffins were built. One grave was dug at the Tiraspol Cemetery for the two little coffins.
