Leslie Berdal, age 68, resident of rural Aneta, ND, died Friday, November 20, 2020 at Fargo VA Medical Center due to COVID-19.
Les was born December 22, 1951, the son of Erick and Dorothy (Sypolt) Berdal. He grew up and graduated from Cooperstown High School in Cooperstown, ND. In October 1971 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Following his military service, he worked a variety of jobs. Les married Kristi Ophaug on September 29, 1979 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Kloten, ND. He worked as a Rural Mail Carrier until his retirement in 2018. In 2011 he received his auctioneer certificate in Mason City, Iowa. During his retirement, he found his passion working with the Heinze-Trottier-Parkman Auction service.
Les loved hunting and auction sales. He never missed attending his granddaughter’s activities, and considered his proudest accomplishment being a grandpa.
Les is survived by his wife Kristi, daughters Erin (Dan) Hetland and Stacy (Kalyn) Luehring, granddaughters Payton, Sophie & Hazel Hetland and Mya & Edyn Luehring, brothers Dan “Tucker” (Vicki Jo Flick) Berdal and James Berdal, brother-in-law Gladwin Lynne, Uncle Leonard (Marlys) Berdal, and special nieces.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Lynne and Charlotte Berdal, sister-in-law Joan Berdal, and uncles Ingvald Berdal and Frederick Berdal.
A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 24,2020. Interment at Zion Cemetery, Dahlen, ND. Military honors will be observed by Ole Semling American Legion Post #135, McVille, ND.
